Human Dummies and their Ventriloquists
01.15.08 (9:49 am) [edit]
A pertinent example is the one put forth by Keith Ohlbermann, Cheney and his puppet Bush.
I know of a couple in which the guy pretends not to be opinionated, and gains people's trust and confidence. Then in private, discusses all these things with his common law spouse. Then she tactlessly repeats these confidences in public which she couldn't have found out any other way, escalating the matters into rumors, while he sits back and grins. She had a bad concussion from a wreck with a former "spouse", and this guy she's with now is her Svengali. He doesn't want her to be independent, although her mental malady could qualify her for SSI.
As much as we may have loved the craft of Edgar Bergen, to see it carried out through a human being is disturbing, watching a benevolent but malignant dictator taking unfair advantage of someone mentally challenged.
I try to see the best in people and take them at face value, but I feel like a fool inasmuch as I didn't pick up on this for a couple of years. I put this topic forth because it may be food for thought. I'm sure others here may have known of similar situations and picked up on some illuminating observations.

Radio is not what it once was
10.16.07 (10:48 pm) [edit]
Radio has changed much over the years. I'm 54. Back in high school, FM underground emerged as an alternative to chaperoned top 40. We thought it wa improving with ideals in the forefront.
But more recently, Clear Channel and a few others have been buying up stations, and only playing the most popular tabulated tunes. It's so bad I couldn't request a novelty tune during "drive time", the commute rush hour. Bean counters are removing creativity from the deejay. You have to do what they say or you're out.
I was asked to start a blog about something. I hope I posted this in the right place.
Young people today may be deprived as we are by all this. Perhaps youthful alternative, be it grunge, rap, or whatever, have an online streaming radio that satisfies their specialty.
My favorite alternative is sponsored by small business and streams online. I may not be able to put links in this blog, but they can be googled. WRDV FM radio Delaware Valley plays different types of 50s music different nights (doowop, beebop, country, rockabilly, jazz) and 30s and 40s during the daytime. CHWO AM 740 in Toronto also covers some of this.
Perhaps others here feel as strongly as I do about the deadness of corporate facism killing radio.
